Directions

Route

  1. Reach the River Trail trailhead beside the northernmost Ponds Trail entrance, immediately above the end of the Garden Trail; this approach is outside the official route distance.
  2. Follow the dirt River Trail alongside the Anacostia River until it intersects the Anacostia River Trail; NPS does not describe a separate endpoint marker.
  3. Turn around at that trail intersection and retrace the River Trail to its Kenilworth trailhead for the official 0.5-mile outing.

Good to know

The official half-mile begins beside the northernmost Ponds Trail entrance and excludes the approach from parking over other garden paths. NPS broadly says its trails have ramps and room for mobility devices, but it does not publish this route's cross-slope, ramp or surface-transition locations, junctions, crossings, curbs, steps, exact endpoint marker, or flood thresholds, so the record does not apply a universal accessibility label. The dirt surface and wider garden are vulnerable to heavy rain and flooding; check hours, standing water, maintenance, surface condition, and current alerts.
