Directions

Route

  1. Reach the boardwalk entrance from Ponds Trail; the approach is separate from this route and is not included in the distance.
  2. Follow the more-than-seven-foot-wide wooden boardwalk for its official 0.25-mile one-way length, staying on the main boardwalk past the viewing areas.
  3. Turn around at the boardwalk's far end and retrace it for a 0.5-mile outing, then use Ponds Trail for the separate return to the garden entrance.

Good to know

The half-mile distance begins at the boardwalk entrance and excludes the approach on Ponds Trail, whose compacted-gravel and grassy-dirt surfaces are vulnerable to flooding. Some boardwalk sections lack handrails. The average running slope is below 5%; an optional rise near the first viewing platform reaches 10%. Check park hours, heavy rain, flooding, maintenance, and current alerts before relying on access.
