Meridian Hill Park

A formal terraced landscape, major cascade, reflecting pool, monuments, and sculpture make Meridian Hill distinctive, but its steep grade and active work zones require level-specific planning.

Much of the upper lawn remains closed for 2026 turf rehabilitation while walkways generally stay open unless needed for staging. The cascade and reflecting pool reopened May 14 but may pause for maintenance, and entering the water is prohibited. Check current work zones and fountain status.

Meridian Hill Park is an over 11-acre National Historic Landmark with upper and lower plazas, a thirteen-basin cascading fountain, reflecting pool, formal landscape, memorials, and sculpture.

Access differs sharply by level: NPS identifies separate accessible upper and lower entrances, warns of a very steep grade between W and Euclid Streets, rough aggregate paths and stair-only entrances, and reports no nearby designated accessible parking.
