This early-learning play date focuses on rainforest habitats. Children can observe collection specimens—including a leafcutter ant and a sloth—learn how rainforests provide homes for many animals, and visit the rainforest section of the Hall of Mammals.

Play Date at NMNH is a drop-in program built around art, play, observation, and exploration for young children and their caregivers. Capacity varies by gallery and the activity may be full when a family arrives; visitors may explore elsewhere and return later during the session.

The program is in the first-floor Kenneth E. Behring Family Hall of Mammals and is wheelchair accessible. ASL interpretation, CART captioning, and audio description can be requested in advance, preferably at least two weeks before the event.
