This five-day camp introduces rising second- and third-graders to the people and processes behind the built environment. Campers explore Museum spaces and exhibitions, experiment with 3-D printing and bridge construction, and finish the week by building a miniature house with small bricks and mortar.
Typical day
- Early drop-off and free play begin at 8:30 a.m.; camp programming runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Morning and afternoon design projects are separated by an exhibition visit, snack, lunch, recess, and quiet reading or drawing time.
- Extended care offers crafts, blocks, games, reading, snacks, and occasional movies until 5:30 p.m.
Campers must read and write independently. Families should pack a lunch that needs no refrigeration; the Museum supplies a nut-free morning snack and an afternoon snack for extended-care participants. Activities remain onsite, though weather permitting, recess may use the West Lawn. Electronics are not allowed without a prior exception from Museum staff.
Each session accommodates up to 20 campers, with two counselors for every 10 children. Full payment is required to register. This session is sold out; the Museum provides an official waitlist.
