Directions

Route

  1. Begin at Cactus Forest North Trailhead on Cactus Forest Loop Drive.
  2. Follow the Cactus Forest Trail south for 0.5 mile, crossing the documented early rain-eroded rut, to the signed Lime Kilns site.
  3. Turn around at the Lime Kilns and retrace the same trail to the North Trailhead.

Good to know

NPS describes this first half-mile as flat and wide except for a rain-eroded rut less than 0.1 mile from the trailhead. The segment crosses hard desert soil toward the kilns, but exact grade, cross-slope, width, and rut dimensions are not separately published. Turn around at the kilns; beyond them the longer trail becomes rockier, narrower, and more uneven.
