Actor Michael Norton portrays Theodore Roosevelt shortly after his service as lieutenant colonel of the Rough Riders. Roosevelt looks back on Tampa’s preparations for the Spanish-American War, conditions aboard troopships, his command of a force that mixed cowboys with wealthy volunteers, and time spent with his wife, Edith, at the Tampa Bay Hotel.
Presented through the perspectives of a military officer, public figure, and family man, the 30-minute program is based on museum research and performed in the historic hotel. It is included with admission. Seating is limited and first come, first served, so early arrival is advised.
Planning your visit
The museum prohibits strollers, food, beverages, and large bags or backpacks. Its authentic 1891 lighting may seem dim, and soft classical music plays in the galleries. Performance transcripts for visitors who are hard of hearing can be requested with two weeks’ notice. Accessible ramps and restrooms, designated parking, and a complimentary first-come wheelchair are available. Free overflow parking is located about a five-minute walk away in the Thomas Parking Garage.
