Actor Mary Jordan portrays Edith Roosevelt as a former Tampa Bay Hotel guest and, later, First Lady. The character reflects on Edith’s 1898 visit while Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders waited in Tampa for orders to depart for Cuba, connecting family life at the hotel with the opening stages of the Spanish-American War.
This 30-minute, research-based living-history program brings a historical guest’s viewpoint into the museum’s original hotel setting. It is included with museum admission. Seating is limited and first come, first served, and early arrival is encouraged.
Planning your visit
Strollers, food, beverages, and large bags or backpacks are prohibited inside. The museum recreates the hotel atmosphere with relatively dim 1891-style lighting and soft classical music. Visitors who are hard of hearing may request a performance transcript at least two weeks in advance. Accessible ramps, restrooms, designated parking, and a complimentary first-come wheelchair are available; free overflow parking is approximately a five-minute walk away in the Thomas Parking Garage.
