Uhuru Bakery & Cafe opens with a free community celebration focused on Black culture, history, food sovereignty and neighborhood economic development. The program marks Marcus Garvey's birthday weekend with a red, black and green flag-raising and a community-history exhibit.
Families can hear live African music, drumming and spoken word, sample selected foods and browse bakery offerings available for purchase, including sweet-potato pies, jerk chicken and air-roasted coffee.
