Historian Peter Kastor explores St. Louis’s surprising connection to the American Revolution. The village was the site of the 1780 Battle of Fort San Carlos, the westernmost battle of the war; the American victory thwarted Britain’s attempt to capture St. Louis and strengthen its control of the Mississippi River.
Kastor is a Washington University history professor whose scholarship focuses on the half-century after American independence and the American presidency. This installment is part of a monthly series examining St. Louis history through talks by local authors and other specialists. A book discussion and signing opportunity follows the presentation.
No reservation is needed. The program takes place in the Old Courthouse rotunda, and the building is fully accessible. A sign-language interpreter will be available for the presentation.
