South Lake Union

Volunteer skippers and crews take visitors onto Lake Union aboard a rotating assortment that may include sprit boats, steamboats, electric boats, schooners, ketches, yawls and yachts. The short rides are free and have been a Seattle tradition for more than 28 years.

How boarding works

Sign-ups begin in person at 1 p.m. outside the Wagner Education Center. Arriving early is strongly recommended. Sailings are first come, first served, and the day’s capacity—usually between 80 and 200 passengers—depends on available boats, maintenance and volunteer crews. A place is not guaranteed to everyone waiting.
