Families can experiment with Henri Matisse’s unconventional approach to color by painting a landscape in hues they would not normally find in nature. The drop-in project is designed and led by educators from SCRAP, using creatively reused materials and ideas drawn from SFMOMA exhibitions.

Family Studio activities

  • Hands-on, take-home art making
  • A children’s book raffle
  • Blocks and open play space
  • Children’s books for browsing and shared reading

The studio activities are free and do not require museum admission. Families who choose to visit the galleries can also ask for printed family guides, try the Art Goggles audio tour, and find children’s menus at Cafe 5 and Jane on Third. Museum admission is separate, though visitors 18 and younger enter free.
