Celebrate the anniversary of the National Park Service by visiting the normally closed upper tower of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Half-hour guided tours run during the event window, offering broad views from the tower and stories about life at the lighthouse station between 1855 and 1891.

Tickets and participation

  • Tower access is available only through a guided tour.
  • Same-day tickets are distributed first come, first served at the table near the lighthouse. Stop there early to secure a tour time; every participant needs a ticket.
  • Families who do not want to climb may visit the lighthouse kitchen and speak with historic interpreters.

The historic lighthouse and its tower are accessible only by stairs. Visitors with mobility needs can ask a ranger for a temporary pass to use one of the limited accessible parking spaces behind the lighthouse. August 25 is a 2026 fee-free park entrance day for U.S. citizens and residents.
