Girl Scouts work together to imagine and construct an artistic world inspired by the museum’s immersive installations. The group creates a large topographic map from a bird’s-eye perspective, then populates it with handmade cardboard creatures, buildings and other structures while working toward the Art & Design Badge.

Workshop activities

  • Explore artist Cannupa Hanska Luger’s work and the role of perspective.
  • Make collaborative ink drawings inspired by aerial landscapes.
  • Add texture with homemade brushes and experimental mark-making.
  • Design and build cardboard creatures and structures.
  • Reflect on the finished world and share ideas as a group.

Advance registration is required and space is limited. The $250 registration package covers a group of up to 10 participants and includes materials; museum admission is not included, though a self-guided visit may be added. The program serves Girl Scouts ages 4–15. Troops should arrive 15 minutes early and enter Artopia through the blue doors at Union Street and Island Avenue. A Teaching Artist provides orientation and safety guidance.

The museum requires one chaperone for every five Scouts and can accommodate a 1:1 ratio for participants with additional needs. Exhibits are ADA accessible, noise-reduction headphones are available, and service dogs are permitted. Garage parking is limited and costs $20 per car, or $10 for members and EBT/WIC/SNAP visitors; nearby lots, meters and public transit are alternatives. All registration sales are final.
