This sensory-friendly museum evening offers reduced lighting and sound, smaller crowds and activities designed for guests with disabilities. The opening hour from 4–5 p.m. is specifically arranged for high sensory seekers.

Activities

  • Meet a sloth, tenrec, snakes and other animals in Survival of the Slowest.
  • Make a take-home sloth pin in The Forge.
  • Explore insects, animal pelts and other specimens at a sensory table.
  • Examine feathers, flowers and natural materials under a microscope.
  • Sit for a humorous portrait from a caricature artist.
  • Watch Superpower Dogs in The Dome with live visual description from Virginia Voice, then join a live astronomy presentation.

Admission is free, but advance registration is required. The museum also maintains a quiet room with tactile objects, calming light and seating for anyone who needs time away from the exhibition areas. Free parking is available in the adjacent deck, and the main entrance has an automated doorway.
