Volunteers help make Virginia history easier to discover by transcribing handwritten documents and historical newspapers into searchable digital text. The session begins with an introduction to the Library of Virginia and a website demonstration using either the Library’s collections on From the Page or its Virginia Chronicle newspaper database.

After the orientation, participants work independently, with staff available for questions. The program concludes with a short group discussion. This opportunity is suitable for a 12-year-old attending with an adult; volunteers may participate independently beginning at age 16.

Registration is required. The volunteer portal requires an account and sends the full directions after signup. Questions may be directed to makinghistory@lva.virginia.gov or 804-330-7400.
