Historian Holly A. Mayer explores the often-overlooked work and experiences of women during the American Revolution. The presentation centers on Pennsylvania native Margaret Corbin, who fought at Fort Washington and received recognition—but not always respect—for her wartime actions.
Corbin’s story opens a broader discussion of women who traveled with and supported the Continental Army, the difficulties disabled veterans faced after the war, and the ways these women have been remembered. The program takes place in the first-floor Fort Pitt Auditorium and is included with regular museum admission.
Mayer is professor emerita of history at Duquesne University, a former military-history chair at West Point and the U.S. Army War College, and the author or editor of several works on the Continental Army and women in the Revolution.
