Formline Family Workshop

Families will create a Formline-inspired artwork on a wooden panel with Tlingit artist and carver James Johnson. Johnson guides participants from the initial paper sketch and tracing through transferring the design to wood and completing it with paint.

The workshop introduces Formline as a Northwest Coast Indigenous art tradition practiced for thousands of years. Families will also learn about the art form’s significance and hear the Tlingit story of “The Raven Who Stole the Sun,” which provides the project’s creative theme. Each registration must include a child ages 5–17 and at least one relative or guardian; space is limited.
