Constitutional scholar Ilan Wurman discusses his book The Constitution of 1789: A New Introduction with moderator Julie Silverbrook, the museum’s chief content and learning officer. The conversation examines the Constitution’s origins, structure, separation of powers, relationship to the American founding, and the questions that have shaped constitutional debate for more than two centuries.

The Book Club series welcomes people of all ages, though the scholarly subject matter is best suited to older school-age children and adults. Audience members may submit questions for the author by email. In-person guests also receive exclusive access to the museum’s Governing the Nation and America’s Founding galleries.

Wurman is the Julius E. Davis Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota and teaches constitutional and administrative law. His previous books address originalism and the Fourteenth Amendment.
