- Start where the East 72nd Street entrance meets the Park Drive loop.
- Follow the paved Drive south around the lower half of Central Park, staying alert at crossings and junctions.
- Continue north on the west side of the Drive to the 72nd Street connection.
- Use the 72nd Street connection to close the published lower circuit at the east-side start.

The Conservancy publishes this as the 1.71-mile lower loop. The Drive is shared and includes active crossings; events and closures can alter circulation, and the official map does not establish a single step-free approach to the start.
