New Victory Dance is a three-week summer mini-festival curated for young audiences. Teaching Artists host each program, introducing three New York City dance companies and concluding with a choreographer talk-back that invites the audience to move from their seats.
Program A
- Urban Bush Women: An excerpt from Contemplations on Legacy, a contemporary work by choreographer Vincent E. Thomas about how personal and shared legacies can guide future generations. Families should note its mature themes involving death and legacy.
- Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo: Pas de Quatre, a technically accomplished, comic parody of spotlight-seeking ballerinas and 1840s Romantic ballet.
- Shamel Pitts | TRIBE: An excerpt from BLACK HOLE – Trilogy and Triathlon, blending dance, light and visual art in an Afrofuturist performance by three Black artists. The staging includes darkness, projections and spinning lights.
Families can arrive up to 45 minutes early for free lower-lobby activities: experiment with different movement styles, turn an everyday routine into a dance, design a costume and write a thank-you message to an inspiring teacher or mentor. The 75-minute program includes transitions between pieces and the talk-back.
Accessibility and family amenities
Sensory Awareness Notes are available before the performance. The downstairs Accessibility Table lends fidgets, ear defenders, assistive-listening devices, wheelchairs and other supports. A quiet Cozy Zone with a live performance feed remains available for anyone who needs a break. The theater also offers wheelchair and companion seating, stroller parking, booster seats, changing tables and complimentary lockers.
