Harbor seal
Phoca vitulina
- Look for
- Rounded head and spotted coat
- Sensitive season
- Spring pupping; early-summer molt
- Habitat
- Coastal water
- Distance
- At least 300 feet
Harbor seals rest ashore between feeding trips and give birth in protected coastal habitat.
A lone pup is usually not abandoned. Disturbance can separate it from its mother, and molt also requires long resting periods.
