Families will create velvet paintings with black velvet, pastels, and black-light paint, drawing inspiration from the “Velvet Elvis” craze of the 1970s.
The activity also introduces the medium’s history: velvet painting originated in Kashmir, became popular in Mexico, and has often depicted animals, landscapes, and musicians. The program is an all-ages drop-in craft.
