Families can make a velvet painting with black velvet, pastels, and black-light paint, drawing inspiration from the 1970s Velvet Elvis phenomenon. The activity also introduces the medium’s roots in Kashmir, its popularity in Mexico, and its use for portraits, landscapes, animals, and musicians.
This all-ages program is included with museum admission and free for members. Eligible Tennessee-area children 18 and younger receive free admission with proof of residency, and up to two accompanying adults receive 25% off.
