Christopher Marlowe’s classic drama is performed by First Stage’s Summer Academy Company Class under director Marion Frank. The story follows brilliant scholar John Faustus as his hunger for limitless power leads him to bargain away his soul to the demon Mephistopheles. The production approaches that cautionary tale with dark comedy and theatrical spectacle.

What families should know

The cast comes from an intensive program for students in grades 9–12, but this is a separately ticketed public performance rather than a class or student-participation session. First Stage does not publish an audience restriction or runtime. Because the plot centers on demons, death, ambition and a bargain for a soul, it is best suited to older children and teens.

Venue and accessibility

Goodman Mainstage Hall is a 142-seat, theater-in-the-round space. Limited free parking is available in the adjacent lot, with nearby street parking and an MPS lot available on evenings and weekends. The venue has barrier-free entrances and walkways, accessible parking, hearing-assistance equipment, scripts for following the performance, and sensory bags or noise-canceling headphones. Review First Stage’s visit information and accessibility services before attending.
