KMAC’s summer poetry program replaces its competitive slam with a free themed Open Mic presented with Lance Newman and Young Poets of Louisville. July’s theme is “I AM,” inviting poems about the present. There is no admission charge or performance fee.
For performers
- Participation is capped at 16 poets.
- Sign-up closes at 5:15 p.m., before the Open Mic begins.
- Each poet may share up to two poems totaling no more than six minutes.
- At least one poem must respond to the monthly theme.
KMAC publishes no formal age requirement, but parents should know that performers sometimes use profanity or address mature themes.
