Families can explore monsoon weather and flood safety through hands-on STEM activities. Children can make a cloud in a bottle and examine it with laser light, learn how NASA satellites and the GLOBE Observer app collect cloud data, pick up a free Drainger Danger activity booklet, create a flood-safety puppet and poster, build a rain gauge, engineer a litter-blocking storm-drain cover, and investigate how saturated clouds release rain.
Presentation schedule
- 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.: Read-aloud of Drop: An Adventure Through the Water Cycle
- 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.: Erosion experiments showing how land cover and rain gardens can reduce flash-flood risk
- 12:30 p.m.: Hydroelectricity and the power of moving water
- 4 p.m.: Eco-themed puppet show
The Drainger Danger kiosk in Eco City offers additional safety tips. Admission is included with museum entry, and free validated parking is available.
