Chief Curator Josef Diaz examines the six-month Domínguez–Escalante Expedition of 1776, which generated some of the earliest written descriptions and maps of the interior American Southwest.

The presentation also introduces expedition member Don Bernardo Miera y Pacheco—a soldier, artist, cartographer, and wide-ranging scholar. His influential map was the first European depiction of much of present-day Utah.
