Watch Paul Laurence Dunbar: Beyond the Mask, a documentary examining the life, writing, legacy, and continuing influence of the celebrated American poet. Historical context, literary analysis, and observations from contemporary scholars and artists explore how Dunbar navigated race, identity, and artistic life around the turn of the 20th century.
A facilitated conversation following the screening will consider Dunbar’s work and why it remains relevant. The program accompanies the museum exhibition Dunbar: Kansas City’s First Black Suburb.
