The first of two Indy Shorts nights at Newfields presents a curated program of recently Oscar-recognized short films. It is part of the ninth annual festival, which runs July 21–26 across Indianapolis. Newfields does not publish a rating for this mixed program, so parents may want to consider that individual shorts can vary in subject matter and intensity.
Plan your evening
The lawn opens at 7 p.m., and the screening begins at dusk. Bring blankets or low chairs along with snacks, nonalcoholic drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and bug spray. Beer, wine, soft drinks, water, and concessions remain available until 30 minutes after the films begin. Pets, outside alcohol, large candles, knives, and hard-to-carry items are not permitted.
Advance tickets are required. Reserved tickets provide an armless low-profile chair in Row G, while prepaid 4-by-5-foot blankets may be picked up onsite and taken home. Guests age 15 and younger must stay with an adult.
Weather and accessibility
This is a rain-or-shine program. Inclement weather moves the screening to the Tobias Theater at 9 p.m., with changes emailed to ticket holders. Limited-mobility seating and assistive listening devices can be requested, and closed captions are shown when available. See Newfields’ accessibility and parking guide for accessible parking, mobility aids, and arrival information.
