Program
Conductor Gonzalo Farias leads the Houston Symphony in an outdoor concert featuring violinist Njioma Grevious. The program pairs Korngold’s Overture to Captain Blood with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Violin Concerto in G minor, Richard Strauss’s Don Juan, and Dvořák’s Carnival Overture. The host explicitly welcomes families and frames the evening as a casual way to experience a leading orchestra beneath the stars. The performance runs approximately two hours and will not be livestreamed.
Seating and weather
Every seating area is free. Families who want covered assigned seats must obtain free tickets, released online at 10am the day before the concert and available through noon on the performance day or until exhausted. Each person age 16 or older may request up to four. The box office also holds tickets for in-person distribution beginning one hour before showtime. No ticket is needed for the first-come, first-served hillside area, where guests may use blankets or lawn chairs. Miller’s seating guide explains both options and accessible accommodations.
Performances continue through ordinary rain and thunderstorms, with cancellation reserved for dangerous weather. Guests may bring picnics, food, drinks, and coolers; glass containers, grills, and open flames are not allowed. Concessions are sold onsite. Nearby free parking is available in Hermann Park lots A, C, F, G, and H, while the Houston Museum of Natural Science offers paid garage parking. Accessible spaces are located along Hermann Park Drive. Listening devices are available from the security desk with a state-issued ID deposit. See the official plan-your-visit guide for additional rules and packing suggestions.
