Ossian Sweet House Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Ossian Sweet Foundation founder Daniel Baxter leads visitors inside the historic home where Dr. Ossian Sweet, his family, and supporters made a courageous stand in 1925. The tour explains how housing discrimination, racial violence, self-defense, and legal justice converged at the house and influenced the national struggle for civil rights.

Participants will consider both the Sweet family’s personal story and the site’s continuing relevance to conversations about racial equity and housing in American cities. The difficult history is most appropriate for older children.
