Early Comic Fandom in Detroit

Detroit comic artists Arvell Jones, B.K. Taylor, and Michael Kucharski discuss the city’s early community of comic collectors, fan clubs, conventions, artists, and creators. They will share firsthand stories about the people and places that helped establish Detroit’s comic culture and inspired their professional paths.

The panelists’ careers encompass Marvel and DC superheroes, National Lampoon, character work for the Muppets and Sesame Street, television, advertising, fantasy art, and museum exhibition design. The program is included with museum admission; advance registration is encouraged because space is limited.
