Eastern Market
Michigan’s largest book festival fills Eastern Market with more than 300 booksellers, authors, publishers, and literary organizations. Families can browse new, used, rare, antiquarian, and unusual books alongside comics, records, creative art, ephemera, and vintage board games. Food, drinks, and music from DJ Seven Whales round out the festival.
Kids Zone
The DTE Plaza Kids Zone presents free children’s programming throughout the day. Ten Detroit-area authors lead half-hour readings, meet-and-greets, and book signings from 10 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. The schedule includes picture books and stories about kindness, Detroit food history, the Great Lakes, nature, adventure, and more; families can review the complete author-reading schedule.
Bookfest and Birdie’s Bookmobile are collecting new and gently used children’s books for Detroit families. Donations can be placed in bright-yellow bins located around the festival.
