Campers entering kindergarten through fourth grade investigate life at scales ranging from microscopic cells to entire ecosystems. The week explores plants, animals, and the systems connecting them, including what preserved specimens can teach scientists and how organisms such as yeast illuminate biological processes. Campers also visit the museum’s exhibit halls.
Enrollment and supervision
This session has reached capacity. The museum says waitlists may be available by contacting camps@perotmuseum.org. Class sizes range from 5 to 23 children, supported by two educators and one or two teen volunteers. Educators have completed or are pursuing post-secondary degrees in science, arts, or education; they are background checked and certified in basic CPR and first aid.
What families should know
- Campers must be at least 5 years old and fully toilet trained. Summer groups correspond to the grade each child will enter in fall.
- Attendance requires both a camp ticket and completed Procare registration, including medication, allergy, learning-needs, immunization, and emergency-contact information.
- Families should provide a lunch, one or two snacks requiring no refrigeration, and a reusable water bottle. Catered lunches with snacks can be purchased separately.
- Closed-toe shoes are required. Campers should wear comfortable clothes suitable for messy or wet activities, bring layers, and expect periods both indoors and outdoors. Younger children should have a change of clothes.
- Valid photo identification is required for pickup; confirmation emails contain the detailed drop-off and pickup procedure.
- Staff generally cannot administer medication. Children must be able to self-administer required medicine, with reasonable ADA accommodations available.
The museum’s Discovery Camp policies cover accessibility, illness, medication, behavior, and cancellation requirements in greater detail.
