Architectural historian Barbara Powers examines how Ohio’s buildings, neighborhoods, cities and rural landscapes reveal history in ways written records cannot. The rescheduled talk follows Ohio architecture from early settlement through industrial expansion and into the modern era.
The program will connect broad architectural trends and recognizable styles with landmark buildings, urban centers, small towns, architects and builders from the 18th through 20th centuries.
Powers is an emerita member of the State Historic Preservation Office with 42 years of experience in historic surveys and National Register programs. She also coordinated Ohio’s contributions to the Society of Architectural Historians’ Archipedia project and has written about the Ohio State Office Building, Malabar Farm and the Ohio Governor’s Residence.
