Directions

Route

  1. Start at the Horner Park natural-area access near Montrose Avenue and the Chicago River.
  2. Follow the main mulch trail south through the restored riverbank habitat.
  3. Use the inland trail junctions to form a return circuit, avoiding flagstone river-edge spurs if desired.
  4. Continue through the remaining natural-area paths to return to the Montrose Avenue access.

Good to know

The park publishes around 1.3 miles of mulch trails, not one signed 1.3-mile loop. This route combines the network editorially; flagstone steps are required for some river-edge views, so skip those spurs if steps are a barrier.
