This free, sensory-supportive museum session welcomes children with autism or sensory-processing needs together with their families and friends. Participants can explore the museum’s exhibits in an understanding environment while taking part in themed Art Studio projects, sensory activities in the Tinkering Tank, and visits with SPCA therapy animals.

Graduate volunteers from SUNY Buffalo State’s Exceptional Education program help children practice language, social interaction, and learning through play. Parent resources—including social stories, child-development information, and play tips—are available, and small snacks or giveaways may be offered in the lobby to support the transition at departure.

Registration and sensory supports

Admission is free, but advance registration is required and capacity is limited. The museum also offers sensory backpacks with noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, visual supports, and chew necklaces; two quiet rooms are available for breaks. Families can review the museum’s complete accessibility resources before visiting.
