Children age 12 and younger receive free admission for a summer visit centered on the Butterfly Experience. The Tropical Orchard contains hundreds of live butterflies among winding paths, tropical plants, and fruit. Families can expect native U.S. species such as monarchs, swallowtails, painted ladies, and red admirals while learning about pollinators and their ecosystems. Selected program dates may also feature a butterfly biofact station staffed by a specialist.
Planning your visit
- Advance tickets are strongly recommended, and every visitor needs a ticket, including members and children receiving free admission.
- The butterfly greenhouse is warm; comfortable shoes, suitable clothing, and a water bottle are recommended.
- Photos are welcome, but visitors may not touch, hold, feed, catch, or disturb butterflies. Move slowly, stay on the paths, and check belongings for hitchhiking butterflies when leaving.
- Strollers, wheelchairs, and other mobility devices are permitted. The complete Butterfly Experience FAQ and policies explain the exhibit rules.
- Free parking is available in the Botanical Gardens lot and along South Park Ring Road.
