- Start where the playground meets the main path near Fort Independence.
- Follow the paved Castle Island Loop around the outside of the fort, staying on the main waterfront walkway.
- Complete the circuit at the playground-and-main-path junction; fort-interior access is separate from this loop.

DCR classifies the loop as easy and accessible and describes a wide urban waterfront walkway, but does not publish numeric grade, cross-slope, every junction, or a route-level crossing inventory. The older official map says 0.79 mile; this record uses the newer 0.75-mile table. Weather, events, security controls, and closures can change access.
