Saturday Open Studios: Marks of Attention — Ink Drawing at the Gardner

Artist Christine Chiang leads a hands-on exploration of slow looking and ink drawing. Families will examine small but memorable details throughout the Gardner collection—from brushmarks and patterned borders to trees on painted screens and colors in the Courtyard—then experiment with fluid ink and several demonstrated approaches to mark-making.

Chiang’s practice connects craft traditions, cultural inheritance, and close observation. Her relationship with ink began while watching her grandfather practice calligraphy and shanshui painting, and that attentive approach also informs her ceramic work.
