Little Explorers introduces preschoolers to the natural world through a nature-themed story, a hands-on craft or activity, and a walk through the Arboretum. The theme reflects seasonal changes visible in the landscape.

Know before you go

  • Designed for children ages 3–5 accompanied by an adult.
  • The group meets inside the Hunnewell Building before heading outdoors; summer sessions may spend most or all of the program outside, so dress for the weather.
  • The lecture hall is wheelchair accessible and stroller friendly.
  • Registration is encouraged but not required. Reserve tickets for both participating children and accompanying adults; online ticketing closes two hours before the program.
  • The program runs rain or shine. Registered families will receive an email if severe weather forces a cancellation.

Getting there

The Hunnewell Building is about a 12-minute walk from the Forest Hills Orange Line station via the Arborway Gate. The Route 39 bus stops at South Street and Bardwell Street. Street parking is available along Arborway, including six designated accessible spaces, but it can fill during busy periods.
