Shakespeare Beyond 2026

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company brings a free, professional outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet to the Parks & People campus aboard its mobile Shakespeare Wagon. Created to welcome audiences of all ages—including people new to Shakespeare—the touring program combines live theater with community arts and learning experiences.

This adaptation places the tragedy in Revolutionary War-era Baltimore: the Montagues become Patriots, the Capulets become Loyalists, and the young couple’s secret relationship unfolds amid family and political division. Original music is woven into a production designed around themes of local history, peace, hope, and imagining a shared future.

Plan your visit

• The Parks & People calendar opens the event window at 7 p.m.; the theater company’s tour schedule lists the performance at 7:30 p.m.
• The performance takes place outdoors on the nine-acre campus, across from the Mondawmin transit station.
• Free parking is available in two campus lots. Lot A and the main entrance are reached from Liberty Heights Avenue; Lot B is entered from Reisterstown Road.
• Additional street parking may be available along Auchentoroly Terrace and Liberty Heights Avenue. Follow posted directions for closures or overflow parking.
