Families can bring unwanted electronics for responsible recycling while learning how recovering materials from old devices can reduce mining pressure on gorilla habitat. Proceeds from small devices recycled through ecocell support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ SAFE Gorilla conservation program. Small devices may be donated in any condition.

Small electronics accepted

  • Cell phones and smartphones
  • iPads, iPods, and tablets
  • GPS devices and smartwatches
  • Digital cameras
  • Associated cords and cables

Large electronics should be taken to the circle drive outside Savanna Hall, where Prime Asset Recovery will collect LCD or LED monitors, desktop and laptop computers, keyboards, mice, servers, networking equipment, circuit boards, RAM, CPUs, hard drives, printers, copiers, projectors, phones, point-of-sale systems, DVD players, scanners, UPS devices, stereo equipment, wires, cables, and flat-screen televisions up to 48 inches. Appliances are not accepted.

The Zoo’s Gorillas on the Line information explains the connection between electronic-device production, habitat loss, landfill waste, and gorilla conservation. Parking and arrival details include the Cherokee Avenue lot and Grant Park Gateway garage.
